Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) has become a cross-sectoral necessity across IOM’s wide-ranging portfolio. MHPSS is integrated into all IOM Somalia operations, including national COVID-19 response plans.

  • Integration of MHPSS services offering individual, family and caregiver support while promoting social cohesion in communities.
  • Technical lead for MHPSS Pillar of the COVID-19 National Response and Preparedness Plan and providing direct support in coordination of both federal and state level.
  • Capacity building of social workers and community mobilizers in Somalia who are deployed to the communities to support women and children affected by COVID-19 and other emergencies.
  • Training of Trainers (ToT) for key community and religious leaders on addressing social stigma and promotion of well-being.
  • Training of frontline health workers and essential responders on basic psychosocial support skills.
  • Deployment of psychosocial support workers to support the influx of returnees and migrants in key migrant reception facilities and in times of emergencies
