Our WorkAs the leading inter-governmental organization promoting since 1951 humane and orderly migration, IOM plays a key role to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through different areas of intervention that connect both humanitarian assistance and sustainable development. Across Somalia, IOM facilitates transition of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and refugees towards durable solutions by providing services and support for Migrants and Mobile Populations.

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) has become a cross-sectoral necessity across IOM’s wide-ranging portfolio. MHPSS is integrated into all IOM Somalia operations, including national COVID-19 response plans.
Activities:
- Integration of MHPSS services offering individual, family and caregiver support while promoting social cohesion in communities.
- Technical lead for MHPSS Pillar of the COVID-19 National Response and Preparedness Plan and providing direct support in coordination of both federal and state level.
- Capacity building of social workers and community mobilizers in Somalia who are deployed to the communities to support women and children affected by COVID-19 and other emergencies.
- Training of Trainers (ToT) for key community and religious leaders on addressing social stigma and promotion of well-being.
- Training of frontline health workers and essential responders on basic psychosocial support skills.
- Deployment of psychosocial support workers to support the influx of returnees and migrants in key migrant reception facilities and in times of emergencies
